About
Me
Hi all, thanks for taking the time to check my website out. I started
playing guitar in my early 20's, bought a book and a guitar and
taught myself. I only wish we had internet resources then like
we do now!! Played a "restrung for left-hander" guitar
for many years before I finally bought myself a genuine "lefty".
I started off doing gigs for family and friends (free of charge
of course), then open-mic nights and eventually graduated to public
performances. My first corporate gig was nerve wracking but turned
out great in the end.
Equipment
I play a TANGLEWOOD left-hander (I would'nt change it for the
world). It has a really smooth sound. I use a Korg accoustic effects
module which adds to the richness of the sound and blues sound
absolutely great with this unit. The amplification is handled
by a 600 watt powered mixer and 2 x Wharfedale LIX 15's. I've
recently added a 15" sub for that deeper sound and it sounds
great. A laptop provides my backing tracks (midi & MP3).
Typical
Set List
My typical performance consists of one and a half hour sets with
a ten minute break in-between. My repertoire consists of songs
from the late fifties to today and is generally tailored for the
function/audience. Weekend pub music is normally of the "let
your hair down" genre whereas quiter functions are treated
with smooth ballads and the like. For private functions (birthdays,
weddings etc), I normally ask the host for a list of twenty or
so of their favourite songs and then incorporate these into my
sets. This approach works really well. I also do some of the more
popular Hindi songs if the occasion calls for it. I also host
Karaoke events and sometimes do a little of both (live and Karaoke)
because most people want to sing after they've had a few drinks!
Location
I'm based in Randburg in Johannesburg,
South Africa and generally do the greater Jo'burg circuit but
will travel if required.
