Biography
Max
Whitehouse started his singing
career at the age of 6 years in his local church choir
St Aidens Miramar, Wellington, New Zealand, under the tuition
of Miss Heath who thought he had a great future in music.
He performed his first paid gig in December 1956 just before
his 16th birthday.
With
no money in entertainment at this time Max went into an apprenticeship
with his adoptive father George Whitehouse as a diesinker,
toolmaker, badge and medal maker. At the end of his
apprenticeship he went farming and worked as a shepherd, drover,
pack horse team handler, horse breaker and then into farm
management.
In
the 1960s Max started performing in cabaret in Wellington,
New Zealand part time and drove cabs for a living. In
the 1970s he was well established as a Country / RocknRoll
singer and was signed to a record deal and recorded several
albums.
In
the 1980s he was appearing on television regularly, especially
on the very popular international TVNZ production "Thats Country"
on which he performed on all the 9 series filmed. "Thats
Country" had many special guests over the years such as Emmylou
Harris, Dave & Sugar, Narvel Felts, Box Car Willy and
many more. This production was sold to the USA and was
shown on TNN in Nashville.
The
Max Whitehouse show is different from the normal band gig
as he draws on his cabaret experience, moving around the tables,
working his audience and involving them in the show. His
wife Renee accompanies him on stage as vocal back-up singer
and support artist. It has been quoted that Max Whitehouse
is one of the worlds top covers singers, the best you may
ever hear. Max continues to perform a number of live
club, hotel, pub, private and corporate gigs a month
and also runs his record label Aquarius Records.
Interests:
Max still has an interest
in his horses, he has been a rider since the age of 2 years.
He trains New Zealand working sheep and cattle dogs
and is currently getting back into breeding these as a hobby.
Another hobby is the growing and training of Bonsai
trees which gives him a great deal of pleasure. He intends
to go commercial with this hobby in the near future.
Equipment
To
keep the cost of the show at an affordable level, Max now
works using the following technology.
We use mini disk players loaded with a pre-planned show. All
backing tracks are recorded using live musicians and vocal
back-up singers. He
supplies his own PA system which is a Fender Passport 2500,
one of the very best small systems on the market. We supply
a small stage lighting rig. Most venues these days have
their own lighting rigs but we can hire larger lighting rigs
if really neccessary.
