I began my musical career in the "beat groups" of the mid sixties and early seventies. I have performed in bands all over Scotland having appeared on the same bill as such famous names as Lulu and the Lovers, Wayne Fontana and the Mindbenders, The Tremeloes, Slade, Hot Chocolate, Dave-Dee, Dozy, Beaky, Mick and Titch and Kenny Ball and his Jazzmen. In the early seventies I joined a large dance band playing resident in one of the larger hotels in the Caledonian chain, where the band would regularly back some of the more famous performers of this time. It was a gruelling schedule with lots of rehearsals and the conductor, Tommy Sampson, was a hard taskmaster, but I enjoyed the challenge of this high profile entertaining in front of large audiences. During this time I also played with a six piece band in the same hotel, but in the lounge bar. On moving to Yorkshire I played with a jazz-rock group doing the university circuit for a while before joining a Rock'n'Roll revival band with whom I played for a year or so. It was around this time that Jean and I decided to combine our talents and form a duo. Jean began her musical career in the school choir and in a few years she was singing in clubs and pubs with acts like Misty Blue and Just Us. She is particularly talented in developing a warm and friendly rapor with her audience, so much so, that through her singing career she has made many friends from all walks of life. Since forming Scandal we have been entertaining audiences all over the north of England in both private and social clubs, in pubs, restaurants, at parties and at social events. We have appeared on the same bill as The Tremeloes, Wayne Fontana, Unit 4+2, Black Lace and Smokey. Over the years we've had lots of enthusiastic reviews in the club magazines and were voted "Best Duo" by the Concert Secretaries Federation in Yorkshire – an achievement of which we are still very proud. Now firmly established here in the Costa Blanca, we are on vocals and vocal harmonies. We feature keyboard, tenor and alto saxophones and clarinet. Our use of the saxophones and our brass arrangements add an extra dimension and texture to our sound and instrumentals like Acker Bilks' 'Stranger on the Shore' are quite haunting. Since moving to Spain in 2005, we've been working hard preparing a varied and sophisticated programme covering smooth classics from the swing era through to the present day popular music. Our wealth of experience, dedication to, and sheer enjoyment of our music can be appreciated when you listen to one of our performances. Pop, rock, disco, soul, ballads, swing and a little country are some of the genres you can enjoy during our performance. From the 40's to the Millennium – with numbers from Glen Miller, 50's Rock and Roll, through the 60's with The Beatles, Cher and Dusty Springfield. Into the 70's with songs from ABBA, Blondie, Smokey and Bonnie Tyler. Through the 80's with Elton John, The Police, The Eagles, UB40, Crystal Gayle and The Bee Gees, into the 90's with Dire Straits, George Michael, Madonna, Chris Rea, Sting and Queen. Finally the new Millenium and the revival of the swing era once again with classics from Michael Buble, Robbie Williams and Rod Stewart. Our
philosophy is simple when we say "We aim to provide the best
possible evenings entertainment, covering a wide variety of musical
styles, songs and instrumentals hopefully with something for everyone,
thus ensuring that our audience enjoys not only a great night out, but
one to remember" because, after all, that's what it's all about.
